Opinions Are Like Assholes.....

When I first read Anthony Bourdain's "Kitchen Confidential" I remember thinking to myself "wow this guy is awsome! A harsh, honest albeit angry look at what a cooks life is really like" When Bourdain's show "No Reservations" came on the air it was smart, edgy, and funny. What happened to that guy? With Bourdain's chain smoking snarky disposition we never had to guess what was on his mind....Now you can't really advocate a guy to KEEP smoking though you have to admit that was part of the mystique. And it seems to me that the further you get Bourdain away from the kitchen the less of a chef he seems to remain. He just seems like another tired washed up food critic. Thoughts? Anyone?

  1. Would it have anything to do with making money and having to follow the very masters that he once despised to keep it coming? Don't forget that his wife gave birth. This can make for some dramatic changes.

Oh well, it was nice to have him as long as we did. Kitchen Confidential will always remain a masterpiece!

  2. I agree with both of you, I enjoyed Kitchen Confidential and the first couple seasons of No Reservations, but he's crossed a certain selling-out point. Oh well, you gotta do what you gotta do.

  3. I must agree. When I read Kitchen Confidential, I was inspired. He showed the industry in it's true light. I only watched a few episodes of No Reservations and to me he sold out to "the man". He took what he knew and loved, and worked so hard to get, and turned it into something no one could relate with.
I guess sometimes that's what happens. I'm glad that he wrote Kitchen Confidential, I just wish that he would have stayed true to that amazing book during No Reservations.
